Young People

St Mary’s attracts a lot of families with children of all ages. We are keen to offer as much as possible for young people both as part of the main services and events, and also in a range of groups and activities more directly focused on them and their needs.

On a Sunday morning

On a Sunday morning the All-Age Worship service (generally referred to as ‘the 9:30′ for obvious reasons) is the first port of call for families with school age children. It’s a lively service, aiming to combine worship and teaching suitable for a younger audience in the first half of the service, with more challenging material for the adults in the second half while the children are in separate groups.

The groups are split by age:

  • Pre-school children can go alone or with a parent into St Nick’s chapel (on the right hand side of the church as you face the altar) for Church Mice (stories, cutting and sticking, colouring, that sort of thing….)
  • Primary school children (up to and including Year 5) are invited to go to the Church hall just over from St Mary’s, for Sunday Plus
  • Secondary school (actually Year 6 and up) have their own club (the Next Doors) which seems to involve copious amounts of hot chocolate and biscuits, fun and free-ranging discussion.

During the Week

Mums with pre-school children are warmly invited to Mums and Toddlers on a Tuesday.

Babies and young pre-school children are likely to enjoy Praise and Play on a Thursday.

Friday Night Live is our new youth group for school years 6 to 11. This meets up every other Friday.
